.:ARE YOU PREPARED TO MEET GOD? –A simple test for the honest Latter-Day Saint

“Have ye walked, keeping yourselves blameless before God? Could ye say, if ye were called to die at this time, within yourselves, that ye have been sufficiently humble? …Behold, are ye stripped of pride? I say unto you, if ye are not ye are not prepared to meet God. Behold ye must prepare quickly; for the kingdom of heaven is soon at hand, and such an one hath not eternal life.” — Alma 5:27-28, Book of Mormon Continue reading Are you prepared to meet God?

.:DID JOSEPH SMITH POSSESS THE PROPER PRIESTHOOD AUTHORITY TO RESTORE CHRIST’S CHURCH IN 1830? —11 Questions for Mormons concerning Priesthood Authority in Early LDS History

1. Do you believe that Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery were required to have the authority of the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods in order to organize the LDS Church April 6, 1830?“In restoring the gospel, God again gave the priesthood to men. John the Baptist came in 1829 to ordain Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery to the Aaronic Priesthood (see D&C 13; 27:8). Then Peter, James, and John, the presidency of the Church in ancient times, came and gave Joseph and Oliver the Melchizedek Priesthood and the keys of the Kingdom of God (see D&C 27:12-13). …Through the Restoration the priesthood was returned to the earth. Those who hold this priesthood today have the authority to perform ordinances such as baptism. They also have the authority to direct the Lord’s kingdom on earth. …On 6 April 1830, the Savior again directed the organization of his Church on earth (see D&C 20:1).”— Gospel Principles, p. 111 Continue reading Did Joseph Smith possess the proper priesthood authority?

HOW TO WITNESS EFFECTIVELY TO MORMONS — Breaking the LDS Authority Barrier Step-by-Step

“I feel sorry for you!” exclaimed a middle-aged Mormon lady to a Christian teenager handing out Gospel tracts at a Mormon event. “You have some truth, but you don’t have the fullness of the Gospel like we do. We have priesthood authority and modern-day Prophets and Apostles to lead us. What could your church possibly have to offer us?”

This prideful attitude is common among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). They believe that “plain and precious” Gospel doctrines have been removed from the Christian Bible so that additional books of Mormon Scripture (i.e., Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price) are needed for a complete understanding of the Gospel. The LDS Church teaches that when the Biblical Apostles died, special “priesthood authority” to act in the name of God was removed from the earth. Thus, Mormons claim that Jesus Christ used John the Baptist, Peter, James, and John to confer upon Joseph Smith missing Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods so that he would hold the authority necessary to “restore” God’s true Church to earth in 1830. Due to these spiritual superiority claims, how should Christians approach Mormons who think their LDS Church has more to offer than other churches? We suggest the following steps to overcome these foundational Mormon authority barriers. Continue reading How To Witness Effectively To Mormons

QUESTIONS TO ASK MORMON MISSIONARIES –- A Step-by-Step Guide for Christians Witnessing to Mormons at the Door

WHO ARE MORMON MISSIONARIES?

Mormon missionaries are representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon Church).  While Mormons claim to be “Christians,” their denial of key Christian beliefs such as God the Father being a Spirit, not an exalted man, the Son being an eternal and uncreated God, not Lucifer’s spirit-brother, man’s goal being to worship God, not become a “god” himself, and eternal hell for unbelievers who reject Christ with no second chance after death has caused many Christians to denounce this group as a heretical movement. 1. In addition to the King James Version of the Bible, Mormons regard as “Scripture” three other books produced by Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism. These books are: The Book of Mormon (a translation of gold plates that allegedly contained the record of ancient inhabitants of America), The Doctrine and Covenants (a transcription of prophecies and revelations that Joseph Smith claimed to have received from God), and The Pearl of Great Price (a translation of an ancient Egyptian ‘Book of Breathings’ papyrus that Smith claimed contained the writings of the biblical patriarch Abraham). Questions for LDS on the Impossible Gospel of Mormonism

QUESTIONS FOR LDS ON THE IMPOSSIBLE GOSPEL OF MORMONISM — A Verse-by-Verse Presentation from LDS Scripture

mountain-pathChristians who believe in the sufficiency of faith alone in Christ for salvation are often frustrated when they quote Ephesians 2:8-9 (“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” **) to a Mormon only to find him agreeing that “general salvation” (resurrection to eternal life) is a free gift given to everyone without works. They may wonder, “Is there much difference between the Mormon Gospel and the Christian Gospel?” While Mormons believe that faith in Christ grants the first level of salvation (i.e., resurrection), they believe that good works (such as marriage for eternity in an LDS temple) are required to earn the highest level of Heaven. Quoting James 2:20: “…faith without works is dead” and other passages that speak of rewards granted in Heaven, many Mormons feel that the Christian Gospel is “too easy.” They believe that while Christians have “some truth,” the LDS religion is the only one that contains the fullness of the everlasting Gospel. QUESTIONS FOR MORMONS ON THE GODHEAD —Presenting the Biblical God and the Trinity

1. Do you believe God was once a “man” like you? If so, wouldn’t that make him once a sinner like you?

“God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! …I say, if you were to see him today, you would see him like a man in form like yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as a manI am going to tell you how God came to be God.  We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity.  I will refute that idea …he was once a man like us; yea, that God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did… Here, then, is eternal life—to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves, …the same as all Gods have done before you…”—Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 345-347 Continue reading Questions for Mormons on the Godhead – Presenting the Biblical God and the Trinity
