DO MORMONS ACCEPT THE WRITINGS OF MORMON LEADERS AS AUTHORITATIVE IN DEFINING MORMON DOCTRINE?

A MORMON CRITICISM:

“For members of the LDS Church, the only sources of absolute appeal for our doctrines are the Standard Works. In looking at your website, I couldn’t help but notice that none of the answers to the questions posed are resourced to the LDS Scriptures. If you are attempting to provide accurate information about the LDS Church, why not cite the LDS canon? .:I BEAR YOU MY TESTIMONY THAT THE LDS CHURCH IS NOT TRUE.OUR REPLY TO A MORMON TESTIMONY:

jesuschristA MORMON BEARS HIS TESTIMONY:

“I respect individuals who are determined in their beliefs and their love for Jesus and his gospel, because I find myself in that same path. So, I hope that you don’t regard me as part of a ‘counterfeit Christianity’ by being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know for an absolute surety that it is the only entity on this earth that has all of the saving ordinances necessary to inherit eternal life. To know Jesus is to serve him, to do as he did and to listen to his prophets.

I belong to THE Church of Jesus Christ. I have prayed earnestly to know the truth of the things I have so diligently searched, and God in his infinite wisdom and love shared His truth with me through the power of the Holy Ghost. Nothing can take this knowledge from me, for it is knowledge and not faith. I am past faith on this. Faith is hoping for things that you have not seen, but knowing is having a validation by the power of the Holy Ghost that what you have had faith in is true. It is validated! Daniel V – Ex-RLDS

.:DANIEL V

I grew up in a splinter group of Mormonism called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the Community of Christ or RLDS).  At age 14, I was baptized into this church, but I was not saved at that time because being baptized into a church and being “born again” are not the same thing.

The RLDS splintered off of Mormonism when Brigham Young took the Mormons to Utah after the death of LDS (Mormon) founder, Joseph Smith, Jr. This group refused to follow Young and took Joseph Smith’s son (Joseph Smith III) to be its leader. Up until 1996 when the last male descendent of Joseph Smith, Jr. died, they had not ceased to have one of his descendents serve as president and prophet of the group.
