Did Jesus say that Men can become Gods?

Jesus and Godhood

DID JESUS SAY THAT MEN CAN BECOME GODS?

JOHN 10:34: “Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?” — If God is the only God, why did Jesus say “Ye are gods”?

MORMON POSITION:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the spirits of all humans are the literal offspring of an “exalted man” in Heaven whom they call, “God our Heavenly Father” and his spiritual Goddess wife, known as “Heavenly Mother.” They claim that that every human should attain to be exalted as a “god” in the same way that they claim that God the Father and His wife have been “exalted.”  Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of Mormonism taught:

“God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!…I say, if you were to see him today, you would see him like a man in formlike yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as a man.…I am going to tell you how God came to be God.  We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity.  I will refute that idea.…he was once a man like us; yea, that God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did. …Here, then, is eternal life—to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all Gods have done before you, namely, by going from one degree to another… from exaltation to exaltation, until you… sit in glory, as do those who sit enthroned in everlasting power.”—Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith,pp. 345-346 Continue reading Did Jesus say that Men can become Gods?

Is the “spirit” of Mormonism true?

IS THE “SPIRIT” OF MORMONISM TRUE BECAUSE IT CONFESSES JESUS HAS COME IN THE FLESH?

1 JOHN 4:2-3; 2 JOHN 7: “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist…. For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.”

.:JESUS CHRIST – OUR SAVIOR

Mormon.org states:

“The first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Having faith in Christ… means believing that He is the Son of God and that He suffered for your sins, afflictions, and infirmities. When you have faith in Christ, you accept and apply His Atonement and His teachings… Having faith causes you to try as hard as you can to learn about and become more like your SaviorThrough repentance, the second principle of the gospel, you change thoughts, desires, habits, and actions that are not in harmony with God’s teachings… To repent, youStop sinning and strive never to commit sin again…” Continue reading Jesus Christ

Is Jesus the first-begotton son of God?

jesussonofgod.:IS JESUS THE FIRST-BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD? -Is Jesus the product of a physical act between Heavenly Father and one of His Wives?

PSALM 2:7: “…Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”

MORMON POSITION:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that humans have the same origin as Lucifer (now known as Satan) and his “eldest brother” Jesus Christ. Claiming that we are all the spiritual offspring of an exalted Man called “Heavenly Father” and his spiritual Goddess wife, known as “Heavenly Mother,” they claim: “Every person who was ever born on earth was our spirit brother or sister in heaven. The first spirit born to our heavenly parents was Jesus Christ…so he is literally our elder brother…Because we are the spiritual children of our heavenly parents, we have inherited the potential to develop their divine qualities.”—Gospel Principles, 1995, p 11 Continue reading Is Jesus the first-begotton son of God?

QUESTIONS TO ASK MORMON MISSIONARIES –- A Step-by-Step Guide for Christians Witnessing to Mormons at the Door

WHO ARE MORMON MISSIONARIES?

Mormon missionaries are representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon Church).  While Mormons claim to be “Christians,” their denial of key Christian beliefs such as God the Father being a Spirit, not an exalted man, the Son being an eternal and uncreated God, not Lucifer’s spirit-brother, man’s goal being to worship God, not become a “god” himself, and eternal hell for unbelievers who reject Christ with no second chance after death has caused many Christians to denounce this group as a heretical movement. 1. In addition to the King James Version of the Bible, Mormons regard as “Scripture” three other books produced by Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism. These books are: The Book of Mormon (a translation of gold plates that allegedly contained the record of ancient inhabitants of America), The Doctrine and Covenants (a transcription of prophecies and revelations that Joseph Smith claimed to have received from God), and The Pearl of Great Price (a translation of an ancient Egyptian ‘Book of Breathings’ papyrus that Smith claimed contained the writings of the biblical patriarch Abraham). QUESTIONS FOR MORMONS ON THE GODHEAD —Presenting the Biblical God and the Trinity

1. Do you believe God was once a “man” like you? If so, wouldn’t that make him once a sinner like you?

“God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! …I say, if you were to see him today, you would see him like a man in form like yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as a manI am going to tell you how God came to be God.  We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity.  I will refute that idea …he was once a man like us; yea, that God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did… Here, then, is eternal life—to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves, …the same as all Gods have done before you…”—Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 345-347 Continue reading Questions for Mormons on the Godhead – Presenting the Biblical God and the Trinity

I Bear You My Testimony – A Reply to a Mormon Testimony

.:I BEAR YOU MY TESTIMONY THAT THE LDS CHURCH IS NOT TRUE.OUR REPLY TO A MORMON TESTIMONY:

jesuschristA MORMON BEARS HIS TESTIMONY:

“I respect individuals who are determined in their beliefs and their love for Jesus and his gospel, because I find myself in that same path. So, I hope that you don’t regard me as part of a ‘counterfeit Christianity’ by being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know for an absolute surety that it is the only entity on this earth that has all of the saving ordinances necessary to inherit eternal life. To know Jesus is to serve him, to do as he did and to listen to his prophets.

I belong to THE Church of Jesus Christ. I have prayed earnestly to know the truth of the things I have so diligently searched, and God in his infinite wisdom and love shared His truth with me through the power of the Holy Ghost. Nothing can take this knowledge from me, for it is knowledge and not faith. I am past faith on this. Faith is hoping for things that you have not seen, but knowing is having a validation by the power of the Holy Ghost that what you have had faith in is true. It is validated! Bonnie – Ex-Mormon

My journey into Mormonism began when I was very young… I grew up in Protestant churches – Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian, to be specific.  Although we were in church every Sunday, I don’t remember really being taught God’s word by anyone at any church.  I also was not getting any teaching at home…. In fact, although my parents were staunch “church goers”, I don’t recall them ever using God’s word to guide me in any way whatsoever.  As a result, when I got to my senior year in college and started feeling a need to understand God, I didn’t have any foundation to draw on.  When I finally became desperate for answers, I made appointments with five Protestant pastors and one Catholic priest in hopes of getting answers, but not one of those men opened a Bible in my presence and said anything like, ”This is what God’s Word tells us.”

So it’s no wonder that when I ran into some Mormon missionaries and they had instant and very confident answers (although a bit odd sounding!) to my questions, using the Bible to answer me, that I became intrigued.  Six months later, I became engaged to a young Mormon returned missionary and slid quite easily into joining his church.  Continue reading Bonnie – Ex-Mormon
