3 Keys of All Faiths

3 Keys of All Faiths

When witnessing to Mormons — or to anyone caught in false teaching — it is essential to ask three basic questions that get to the heart of every belief system:

1) What is Their Source of Truth?

Every faith appeals to some authority. For Mormons, it is the Bible plus the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price, along with the living prophet. But Christians stand firmly on the Word of God alone.

📖 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17, KJV)

📖 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” (John 17:17, KJV)

Unlike Mormonism, which adds to and even changes God’s Word, Scripture warns: “Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.” (Proverbs 30:6, KJV).

2) Who is God?

Mormonism teaches that God was once a man who progressed to godhood, and that humans can become gods themselves. The Bible, however, reveals the eternal, unchanging God who is Spirit and has no beginning or end.

📖 “Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.” (Isaiah 43:10–11, KJV)

📖 “For I am the LORD, I change not.” (Malachi 3:6, KJV)

📖 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24, KJV)

The God of the Bible is not an exalted man, but the eternal Creator: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1, KJV).

3) How is Salvation Obtained?

Mormonism teaches salvation by grace plus works, temple ordinances, priesthood authority, and church membership. But the Bible is clear: salvation is a free gift received by faith in Jesus Christ alone.

📖 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9, KJV)

📖 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.” (Titus 3:5, KJV)

📖 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12, KJV)

📖”For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23, KJV); “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NASB).

The cross, not temples, ordinances, or prophets, is the foundation of salvation: “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2, KJV).

This training, first presented by Marshall Almarode to a youth group in Utah preparing to witness to Mormons, highlights that no matter what religion you encounter, these three questions — source of truth, identity of God, and way of salvation — expose whether a faith stands on Christ or on shifting human traditions.
