‘I Am God, Not Man’: The Bible’s Rebuke of Mormon Deification

Can Man Become God? A Biblical Response to the Mormon Doctrine of Exaltation

Mormonism teaches a controversial and unbiblical idea—that God was once a man, and that faithful human beings can become gods themselves. This belief stems from the teachings of Joseph Smith, the founder of the LDS Church, and was later popularized by leaders like Lorenzo Snow, who famously stated, “As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become.”

But is this lofty promise of exaltation—to one day be a god over your own world—truly found in the Word of God?

The Bible says otherwise.

In this video, we take a deep dive into the eternal, unchanging nature of God, as revealed in Scripture. The God of the Bible is not an exalted man or a being who “progressed” to godhood—He is eternally God, holy, and set apart from all of creation.

📖 Isaiah 43:10“Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.”
God plainly declares that He is the only God—there were none before Him, and there will be none after. This completely dismantles the LDS teaching that humans can become gods.

📖 Hosea 11:9“For I am God, and not man, the Holy One in your midst; And I will not come with terror.”
Here, God makes it clear that His divine nature is wholly separate from mankind. He is not a man—and never was.

📖 Psalm 50:21“You thought that I was altogether like you; But I will rebuke you…”
God rebukes those who assume He is “like us.” This speaks directly to the human-centered theology of Mormonism, which reduces the Almighty to our level.

We also explore the spiritual danger behind the desire to become like God in essence—a desire that originated not with Christ, but with Lucifer.

📖 Isaiah 14:13–14“I will ascend to heaven… I will be like the Most High.”
This prideful ambition to be “like God” was the very sin that led to Satan’s fall. Today, that same lie persists under different disguises—even in religious systems that seem moral on the surface.

Through this video, you’ll see how Mormon teachings directly conflict with the unchanging truth of Scripture, and why the Bible calls us not to strive to become gods, but to become like Christ in character—humble, obedient, and submitted to the will of the Father.

📖 Philippians 2:5–7“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who… made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant…”

Join us as we shine a light on the differences between Mormon doctrine and biblical Christianity. The truth is not found in man’s progression toward divinity, but in God’s gracious invitation for us to know Him, worship Him, and become His children through faith in Jesus Christ.
