The Bible makes it unmistakably clear: there is only one mediator between God and humanity—Jesus Christ. “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:5–6). Through His death and resurrection, Jesus alone stands as our High Priest and Advocate before the Father (Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 2:1).
Yet within Mormonism, Joseph Smith has been described as the gatekeeper of the highest heaven. Statements from LDS leaders claim that no one can enter the Celestial Kingdom without Joseph Smith’s approval of their worthiness. This teaching raises a vital question: If Christ is the one and only mediator, why must Latter-day Saints also pass the test of Joseph Smith?
The Bible warns against giving Christ’s role to another. Jesus Himself declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). To insert any other figure—no matter how revered—into the role of mediator undermines the sufficiency of His sacrifice. Scripture affirms that salvation rests in Christ alone:
- “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
- “By one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14).
- “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Ephesians 1:7).
This video contrasts the biblical truth of Christ’s exclusive role as Savior and Mediator with the LDS teaching that elevates Joseph Smith to a position Scripture reserves for Jesus alone. The question every believer must face is this: Will we trust fully in Christ’s finished work—or depend on a human figure who cannot save?
