One of the biggest challenges for Mormonism is that the Book of Mormon cannot be connected to real-world history or geography. In this video, Marshall examines the serious problems with trying to fit the events of the Book of Mormon into either the traditional Central American setting or the “Hill Cumorah” in New York.
For example, the Book of Mormon records battles of unimaginable size:
- “And it came to pass that there were ten thousand of my people who were hewn down, and we also beheld ten thousand of my people who were hewn down; and I also saw ten thousand of my people who were hewn down; and I also saw ten thousand of my people who were hewn down.” (Mormon 6:10–15, Book of Mormon)
- “So many had fallen, yea, even so many that they could not be numbered… and their bodies were heaped up upon the face of the land.” (Ether 14:21, Book of Mormon)
According to Mormon scripture, millions of soldiers died at or near the Hill Cumorah. Yet no evidence has ever been discovered there — no bones, no weapons, no armor, no cities, and no artifacts. This stands in stark contrast to the Bible, where historical details and place names are consistently confirmed by archaeology.
Archaeology Confirms the Bible
God’s Word is rooted in real people, real places, and real events:
- The Pool of Bethesda (John 5:2) was once dismissed as a legend until archaeologists uncovered it in Jerusalem.
- The Tel Dan Inscription provides evidence for King David, confirming the biblical record (2 Samuel 7:16).
- The Pilate Stone, found in Caesarea, confirms the rule of Pontius Pilate (Luke 3:1).
- The Dead Sea Scrolls affirm the reliability of the Old Testament text (Isaiah 40:8).
The Bible not only invites investigation, it holds up under scrutiny:
- “Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea.” (Luke 3:1) – The gospel narrative is tied to real history.
- “We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” (2 Peter 1:16)
- “Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)
The Contrast
While archaeology repeatedly affirms the Bible’s truth, the Book of Mormon remains disconnected from the physical world. Its battles, civilizations, and landmarks vanish under examination. God has given us His Word anchored in history, not myths or imaginary lands.
- “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
- “Test everything; hold fast what is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
In this video, Marshall reveals the empty claims of Book of Mormon geography and points to the trustworthy record of Scripture, which has stood the test of time.
