Chip Thompson’s Bible Museum – How Do We Know the Bible is Accurate?

The Bible Museum – Evidence That God’s Word Endures

The Bible is not a book of myths — it is God’s inspired Word, preserved through the centuries and confirmed by history and archaeology. At the Bible Museum in Ephraim, Utah, Chip Thompson of TriGrace Ministries has gathered one of the finest displays of biblical archaeology, showing how Scripture stands firm against the test of time.

Archaeological Evidence on Display

This collection demonstrates that many key events and details in the Bible are substantiated by archaeology:

  • Ivory in the Ancient World – “Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house that he made.” (1 Kings 22:39). Chip displays a piece of ivory from ancient Sumeria, where archaeologists have found more ivory than any other region mentioned in Scripture.
  • Jezebel’s Window – “When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it. And she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out of the window.” (2 Kings 9:30). A carved image believed to reflect this very biblical scene is part of the museum’s display.
  • Widow’s Mites – Coins like those used in Jesus’ parable: “He saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.” (Luke 21:2).
  • Nails of Crucifixion – Replicas of nails like those that pierced Christ’s hands: “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails… I will never believe.” (John 20:25).
  • Roman Spear – A spear from the time of Christ, similar to the one that pierced His side: “One of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.” (John 19:34).
  • Coins of Betrayal – Silver coins like those given to Judas: “They paid him thirty pieces of silver.” (Matthew 26:15; cf. Matthew 27:3–6).

The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Reliability of Scripture

The museum also highlights the Dead Sea Scrolls, containing almost every book of the Old Testament. These manuscripts, dating back to the second century B.C., match the Bible we have today with astounding accuracy. This confirms God’s promise:

  • “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
  • “Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.” (Psalm 119:89)

Chip Thompson reminds us: “That’s the importance of knowing the history of the Bible.” Christians can trust that the Scriptures we hold are the very Word of God, preserved without corruption through the centuries.

  • “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)
  • “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

The Contrast with the Book of Mormon

While biblical archaeology continues to confirm Scripture again and again, the Book of Mormon has no archaeological support whatsoever. No cities, coins, languages, inscriptions, weapons, or battlefields have ever been discovered to verify its claims. In contrast, the Bible anchors its message in real places, people, and events:

  • “Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea.” (Luke 3:1) – tying the gospel to history.
  • “We did not follow cleverly devised myths … but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” (2 Peter 1:16).

The evidence confirms what Christians already know: God’s Word is trustworthy. Scripture is rooted in truth, while the Book of Mormon is left without historical foundation.
