How Did All This Happen?

Marshall Almarode shares the story of how his journey into evangelizing Mormons began — a journey sparked by curiosity, challenge, and ultimately, God’s guidance. It all started when a Mormon friend asked him a simple yet profound question: “Do you really know if Mormonism is true or not?” That question ignited a chain of events that would change Marshall’s life and calling forever.

A close friend encouraged Marshall to be certain about the truth, saying, “You need to know for sure that Mormonism is false.” Taking this to heart, Marshall dove deep into research, studying the Book of Mormon and related Mormon teachings. He even watched the documentary Godmakers four times, each viewing sharpening his understanding of the inconsistencies, contradictions, and false claims within Mormonism. The Bible reminds us of the importance of testing everything against God’s truth: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1).

Equipped with knowledge and conviction, Marshall began taking his witness public. He attended the Utah State Fair, a place where many Mormons would gather, and started engaging them in conversations about faith, Scripture, and the teachings of Jesus Christ. His goal was never to argue for the sake of winning, but to faithfully present truth: “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2).

Marshall’s efforts were soon joined by his friend Robert, who actively distributed tracts to Mormons at the fair. These tracts highlighted errors, changes, and contradictions in Mormon scripture, giving seekers a tangible resource to examine. As Proverbs 11:30 says, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” Their teamwork demonstrated the power of faithful witness and the multiplication effect of partnering in ministry.

Through persistent study, prayer, and bold outreach, Marshall discovered that God equips those who diligently seek the truth. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). By leaning on Scripture, discerning carefully, and acting courageously, Marshall was able to stand firmly in the truth of Christ while reaching those lost in false teaching.

This story reminds all believers that God can take a question, a challenge, or even a simple curiosity and transform it into a life-changing calling. As Jesus said, “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37–38).
